Tourism, Outdoor Advertising Leader Jack Steiner Dies posted February 14, 2007 John Thomas "Jack" Steiner, Sr., a longtime leader in tourism and outdoor advertising, died on Tuesday afternoon at a local hospital. Mr. Steiner had fought lung cancer for three years and was 70 years old. His family has owned and operated Ruby Falls on the side of Lookout Mountain for many years. Mr. Steiner made a number of land donations to the Lookout Mountain Land Trust, including the Guild Trail that goes from the foot of the mountain to the top along the old bed of the Broad Gauge Railroad. He served for a number of years on the Tourist Development Agency and was a leader in the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau. Bill Chapin, president of Rock City Gardens, said Jack Steiner was "a leader in the attractions, hospitality and outdoor advertising industries in the city, state and nation. "Chattanooga and Hamilton County will him miss because of his energy and creative contributions. He, like his family-owned attraction Ruby Falls, are tourism icons." Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel, South Moore Road. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter And Paul Catholic Church. |
