McCallie School senior Jordan Thomas is the subject of this year’s “patient profile” during the 4th annual “Possibilities: Siskin Hospital Celebrates Life Beyond Disability” luncheon on Wed., Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga Trade Center. Every year, a video profile honors a former patient whose life is a testament that one can excel beyond disability to lead a creative and fulfilling life.

On Aug. 16, 2005, Jordan surfaced after scuba diving in the Florida Keys. The wake pushed him behind the boat where the propeller hit both of his legs. After three surgeries in Miami, Jordan lost both legs from the calf down. Two weeks later, he returned to Chattanooga for physical therapy at Siskin Hospital. Jordan’s goal was to rejoin his golf team during his senior year of high school. He did, and is now also on the bowling team. However, Jordan’s dreams reached far beyond himself and his personal goals.

Immediately following his accident and while at the hospital in Miami, Jordan realized that he was surrounded by children who could not afford prosthesis, and he began his own foundation before his discharge. The Jordan Thomas Foundation is doing well and recently awarded its first gift to a five-year-old girl in need of prosthetic legs. “Possibilities” is Siskin Hospital’s largest community-wide fund-raising event. Tickets to the event are $65. Patron and Crystal Patron tables of eight are available for $1,000 and $1,500. Proceeds from “Possibilities” benefit Siskin Hospital’s Patient Assistance Fund, which provides more than one million dollars every year in care for those without the means to pay for their treatment.

For more information, call (423) 634-1208. Howard and M. J. Levine are serving as honorary co-chairs for the event. The planning committee is co-chaired by Maxine Alper and Barbie Standefer.
