Cornerstone Bank Announces Promotions

Cornerstone Community Bank announced several promotions: Carolyn Smith to senior vice president and chief deposit operations officer, Gary Petty to senior vice president and chief financial officer, Nancy Hale to vice president and relationship manager, Evon Chastain to vice president and human resource manager, Brenda Crowder to vice president and assistant credit department manager, Steven Martin to assistant vice president and information technology officer, Christy Mercer to assistant vice president and controller, Debbie Baldwin to bank officer and deposit operations supervisor, Mary Rogers to bank officer and compliance officer and Melanie Payne to bank officer and assistant loan servicing manager.

Carolyn Smith has been with Cornerstone since January 2000. Ms. Smith will oversee the bank's operations, including deposit and branch operations. A 29-year veteran of the banking industry, Ms. Smith is an accredited ACH professional and serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee ACH Association and First Things First. She and her husband live in Red Bank.

Gary Petty will be responsible for the bank's accounting functions, including financial reporting. Mr. Petty has been responsible for the internal auditing of the bank for the past five years and has been with the bank since January 2000. Mr. Petty graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Master of Accountancy. Mr. Petty and his wife live in Ringgold.

Nancy Hale is based in Cornerstone’s downtown branch and is one of the 15 original employees who started with the bank in 1996. Mrs. Hale attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and completed the Southeastern School of Banking at Vanderbilt. Mrs. Hale has over 18 years of prior banking experience and has six years of consumer and commercial lending. Ms. Hale is married and has three children.

Evon Chastain has over 16 years of banking experience and recently completed the Human Resource Management School at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Ms. Chastain is a board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and lives with her husband in Chattanooga.

Brenda Crowder is a loan, credit and appraisal review officer for the bank. Ms. Crowder has been with Cornerstone for 15 years and in the banking field for 23 years. She and her husband live in Rossville.

Steven R. Martin is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and Microsoft Certified Professional. He has over 12 years experience in the Information Technology field and directs information systems for the bank. Mr. Martin his wife and three children live in Chattanooga.

Christy Mercer has been with Cornerstone Community Bank since September 2002. Ms. Mercer received a BA with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. She lives in Chattanooga with her husband and children.

Debbie Baldwin has over 30 years of banking experience in the deposit operations area and is an Accredited ACH professional. Mrs. Baldwin resides in Ringgold with her husband and daughter.

Mary Rogers graduated from Covenant College with a BS degree and has over eight years of community banking experience. Ms. Rogers is an Accredited ACH professional and lives in Ooltewah.

Melanie Payne has been with Cornerstone for five years in the loan servicing department. Ms. Payne lives in Ooltewah along with her husband.

Cornerstone Community Bank is one of the largest locally-owned and locally-managed community banks in the Chattanooga market.
