Firefighters Fight Bonny Oaks Garage, House Fire
posted March 2, 2007

Chattanooga firefighters fought a garage fire that spread to a nearby residence on Bonny Oaks Drive late Friday afternoon.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., firefighters responded to a reported fire at 4121 Bonny Oaks Dr.

Firefighters were notified of the fire by a person who stopped by Fire Station #6 on Bonny Oaks and stated there was a fire at a home on Bonny Oaks Drive near the Phoenix Lounge.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a structure located at the rear of the property.

Firefighters proceeded cautiously because they had also received a report of an explosion coming from the structure.

The fire was located in a detached garage, and firefighters quickly knocked the fire down using hand lines.

The fire did spread to an adjacent residence, causing damage to that structure also.

The garage was a total loss, and the other structure sustained heavy fire damage. The adjacent structure was vacant, so there was no one displaced and there were no injuries sustained during the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Quint 6, Quint 10, Quint 19, Engine 15, Squad 2, Engine 4 and Battalion Chief Winston Shields responded to the fire.

Chattanooga Police, Hamilton County EMS and the Electric Power Board assisted the Fire Department.
