Police Blotter: Boyfriend Asked To Leave, Sets Girlfriend's Clothes On Fire

Police said a boyfriend who was asked to move out of his girlfriend's house on Longview Drive responded by setting her clothes on fire.

Officer Robert Bell said he found the fire still burning when he went to investigate.

The girlfriend said she asked him to leave because he would not get a job.

She said she came home from work to find the fire that was consuming her clothes, some pictures and other items. She said he also tore the electrical box off the residence.

She told the officer the boyfriend was apparently hiding in nearby woods.

The officer said the woman herself smelled of an intoxicant. She said she had consumed five beers.

At Penneys at Hamilton Place Mall, store personnel said they spotted Lauren Barna and Elizabeth Beyer shoplifting.

The store recovered $281.98 in items, and the women were charged with theft under $500.

At Dollar General Store on East Brainerd Road, a white female came in with an apparently empty large purse. She left with a full purse.

Store employees said they believe she took some items, but they did not see her doing it and the store video was not working correctly.

The woman was seen getting into a white Nissan occupied by two white males.

Richard Zarzour of Williams Street said someone broke into his truck overnight.

They broke out a window and ransacked the interior, including damaging the speakers, dashboard and glove compartment.

The thief also pried open the tool box, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Gil Gilbert left his PT Cruiser unlocked.

His GPS system was lifted.

Richard Watkins reported his Ford-250 was broken into while parked at the Hampton Inn on Hamill Road.

A 33mm camera and his checkbook were taken.

A security camera showed a small sedan with two occupants at the scene of the theft.

A rock was thrown through the window of Farrow's Service Center at 3424 Rossville Blvd. The rock was found on the floor inside.

The cash drawer was missing.

At the RLS Group, a large piece of concrete was thrown through a window.

It did not appear anything was taken.

A woman who was with her lawyer mapping out her divorce called police to make a report.

She said she had found a glass drug pipe beside her sleeping husband that morning.

Police got a report of a man pushing a bicycle along Interstate 75. They spotted Virgil Sholtz with his bike at the Shallowford Road exit.

Mr. Sholtz said he was going home and did not realize he was not allowed with his bicycle on the freeway.

He was advised to seek an alternate route home.

Police also got a call about a man down in an elevator at the Shallowford Business Center. A woman who spotted him said she did not know if he was breathing.

James Byce told an officer he rides his bike in that vicinity and has breakfast at Shoney's. He said he got tired and lay down in the elevator.

He was advised not to sleep in elevators.
