Man Killed In Wreck On Riverside Drive
posted March 17, 2007

A man was killed in a wreck on Riverside Drive near the Boathouse Restaurant Friday night when his vehicle hit a truck in the oncoming lane.

He was identified as William Christopher Cook, 27, of Donaldson Drive.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. and was the city's sixth traffic fatality of the year.

Investigators said a Chrysler Sebring convertible was traveling north on Riverside Drive when the driver apparently lost control and swerved into the southbound lane. The vehicle crashed into a Nissan pickup truck.

Mr. Cook was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan truck, Richard K. Roots of Merritt Island Fla., was transported to Erlanger Medical Center to be treated for broken ribs and a crushed ankle. His 11-year-old daughter, who was a passenger, was not injured.
