Alexander, Corker Cosponsor Bill To Lift D.C. Gun Ban
posted March 29, 2007

U.S. Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker Thursday announced that in support of Second Amendment rights, they are cosponsoring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s (R-TX) bill to repeal the ban on certain firearms in the District of Columbia.

“Gun control should not mean taking away these rights from law-abiding citizens and leaving criminals to terrorize the streets,” Sen. Alexander said. “Good citizens don’t abuse guns; criminals do.”

“I’m cosponsoring this bill because I believe the Second Amendment guarantees the right of all law-abiding citizens to bear arms,” said Sen. Corker. “I feel just as strongly that we should do all we can to help citizens feel safe and secure in their own neighborhoods, but I believe the best way to do that and to stop crime is to arrest and imprison criminals—not to impose burdens on law-abiding citizens.”

The District of Columbia Personal Protection Act, S.1001, would repeal portions of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975.
