A group from Chattanooga will tour sites at Pittsburgh, Pa., and Columbus, Ohio, next Tuesday to get ideas for redevelopment of the large Wheland Foundry/U.S. Pipe and Foundry site downtown.
Jack Murrah of the Lyndhurst Foundation said he will make the tour along with a group that includes Mayor Ron Littlefield, officials of RiverCity Company and property owners Gary Chazen and Mike Mallen.
Mr. Murrah told the Southside Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, "I have no idea what will go there, but I know it will have a huge and positive impact on our community."
Mr. Murrah said the Lyndhurst Foundation was involved in the U.S. Pipe and Foundry purchase - agreeing to take 37 acres that are on the river side of the I-24 freeway around Moccasin Bend and to pay up to $2 million of environmental remediation costs on the site.
He said the 37 acres will remain greenspace. "There are some amazing views there," he said.
