McCallie and GPS students will complete their 8th Habitat for Humanity House building effort this Saturday with a day of landscaping, a house dedication and a neighborhood celebration.
“The students will be landscaping the grounds surrounding eight Habitat for Humanity homes on Barnes Court,” said Habitat’s Executive Director, John Atherton.
“Chattanooga Master Gardeners will be on site to assist in the effort, using materials donated by Lowe’s and The Barn Nursery.”
Following the landscaping effort, the students will pause to dedicate the home they have built this year with and for Angela Crutcher. “More than 150 students have worked on Angela’s home since Jan. 13,” said Mr. Atherton. “It is a real blessing to see so many young people giving their time and energy to change a life, and transform part of our community.”
This year’s project is part of a continuing partnership between McCallie, GPS and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, notes Mr. Atherton. “McCallie and GPS students have touched the lives of 8 families in Chattanooga through funding and constructing Habitat homes together each year since 2000. Prior to 2000, McCallie also participated in two additional builds, making this their 10th.”
The Home Dedication will be followed by a Neighborhood BBQ Celebration for the families of Barnes Court, as well as past McCallie-GPS house homeowners.
