The driver of the Jaguar involved in the fatal accident in the 2000 block of Hixson Pike on Saturday has been identified as Floyd M. Russell of Chattanooga.
Police said Mr. Russell was treated and released from a local hospital.
The accident, in which a Soddy-Daisy couple was killed, is still under investigation by the Chattanooga Police Traffic Division. No charges have been filed.
James A. "Bill" Grimsley, 79, of Soddy-Daisy died at the scene.
His wife, Arbutus Johnson Grimsley, also 79, died Sunday afternoon from her injuries.
Mark Grimsley, youngest of three sons of the couple, said the family questions "why it took until Wednesday to release the name of the driver."
He said a brother went to check on the vehicles on Tuesday night and the tag was still on their parents' car, but the tag was off the Jaguar.
Mr. Grimsley said, "If my dad had caused this accident, his name would have been in the paper the next morning. But when there is a Jaguar involved, it's different. There's a double standard in Chattanooga."
He said the police officer who first told them their father had died said another driver "came across on the wrong side of the road."
Family friends said Mrs. Grimsley was lucid after the accident and told family members about a vehicle coming across the yellow line and striking their vehicle, then being knocked into a car that was behind them.
The accident occurred near Bright School.
