George Parker Leaving Tivoli, Auditorium To Promote His Own Shows posted May 24, 2007 George Parker is leaving his position as general manager of the city's Tivoli Theatre and Memorial Auditorium. Mr. Parker said he plans to begin promoting his own shows at the Tivoli, the Auditorium and elsewhere. He said, "That's what I enjoy doing and I'm good at, I think." Mr. Parker said longtime Tivoli and Auditorium employee Sandy Coulter has been phasing into the position over the past five months. He said, "Sandy works so hard. She deserves the promotion. She knows the business inside and out. She covers every base." When he was hired in October 2005, Ms. Crutchfield, who heads the city's arts and culture department, said Mr. Parker has a long background in show promotions. She said at the time, "We have a goal of increasing the shows at the Tivoli and Memorial Auditorium by 25 percent over the next four years." She called the former operator of the Market Street Performance Hall "the right person for the job." Former Tivoli and Memorial Auditorium operator David Johnson, who has continued to work as a consultant for the city, was part of a group that helped to choose Mr. Parker. He was initially paid $50,000 per year. |
