Fire Damages Large House On Hillcrest Road
posted May 27, 2007

No one was home and no injuries were reported in connection with a house fire in North Chattanooga Saturday night.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 10:06 p.m. and responded with five fire companies to 1646 Hillcrest Road.

When the first firefighters with Engine 12 arrived on the scene, flames were already shooting through the roof of the large, two-story house. It took the firefighters roughly 30 minutes to get the blaze under control, but they did manage to contain the fire damage to one end of the house.

Most of the fire damage was located in the attic over the garage, but the rest of the house had smoke and water damage. The loss was estimated at around $150,000.

Lieutenant Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious in nature. The investigation will continue.
