$6 Million Industrial Training Center Set At Enterprise South
To Be Operated By Chattanooga State
posted June 19, 2007

A $6 million industrial training center will be built at Enterprise South Industrial Park.

Mayor Ron Littlefield said the center was a part of the deal seeking to land a Toyota plant here.

He said the facility will be an important part of luring another major industry and for training workers areawide.

It will be operated by Chattanooga State Technical Community College.

The facility, which is currently under design, will be located at the huge Tyner tract on a portion of the property next to the Hamilton County Department of Education.

A $3 million federal grant is expected in October.

The state is to contribute $1.5 million and the city and county $750,000 each.

Paul Page of Mayor Littlefield's staff said it is expected that a motel will open nearby to accommodate the hundreds of workers who will come to the center for training.

He said it can be adapted to train workers for a particular type plant.

City Councilman Leamon Pierce said he had concerns about the city continuing to spend tax money at the industrial park.

He said, "We keep pouring money into Enterprise South and nothing has matured."

Mayor Littlefield said several smaller firms have located there, and he said a big one will be landed eventually.
