Fire Quickly Extinguished At U.S. Pipe
posted June 22, 2007

A fire was quickly extinguished at the old U.S. Pipe plant on Friday morning.

At 9:19 a.m., Chattanooga Firefighters were dispatched to 2501 Chestnut St. on a possible structure fire.

On initial arrival of the fire units, it was reported smoke showing.

Chattanooga firefighters laid fire hose from the hydrant and stretched hand lines into the structure, which is part of the old valve and hydrant building.

Firefighters encountered a fire in an old paint booth. The fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes.

According to the initial report, workers were in the building performing cutting operations, preparing the structure for demolition, when the fire started. Workers exited the building and called for the fire department.

Due to the structure being prepared for demolition, there was no property loss on the structure.

Fire investigators were called to the scene to make an official determination of the cause of the fire.

Quint 1, Quint 2, Quint 14, Ladder 1, and Squad 1 responded on the alarm.
