At a press conference held Tuesday at the Access Road and DuPont Parkway convenience center for recycling, Mayor Ron Littlefield announced that the site will now be a permanent location and offer the same recycling capabilities as the center at Warner Park.
“This convenience center has received a steady flow of participation and the usage of this center has continued to increase each month,” said Mayor Littlefield. “After monitoring activity at this location and the amount of tonnage received each month, we determined the Access Road location to be the best place to begin establishment of a permanent center comparable to Warner Park.”
By May of this year the participation level at the Access Road center had risen 41 percent, he said. The amount of recyclables collected rose 63.29 percent during the first five months of operation, it was stated.
In addition to everything that is recyclable through curbside collection, including cardboard, newspaper, all paper grades, plastic #1 and #2 bottles with a neck, aluminum and rinsed out steel cans, the Access Road convenience center also accepts wet cell batteries, small electronics (no TVs or microwaves), shredded paper, glass bottles (brown, green and clear) and motor oil.
The concrete for the center was donated by Ready-Mix USA. “We’d like to thank Ready-Mix USA for helping to make this new center possible,” said Tera Roberts of Orange Grove Center. “They donated more than 1,700 cubic yards of concrete to assist in training our clients and for the construction of the new convenience center here at Access Road and DuPont Parkway. We’re excited to have an additional location to provide training for our clients and to offer Chattanoogans another place to bring electronics and all other recyclable materials.”
