Judges Schulten And Thomas In National Judicial Scientific Training Seminar posted July 12, 2007 Judges Jackie Schulten and W. Neil Thomas, III of Circuit Court of Hamilton County were among 70 judges from around the county who received a scholarship to participate in a training seminar at The Ohio State University as part of the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource Program - national program designed to prepare judges to preside over cases involving complex scientific issues. The seminar, “The Language of Life Sciences,” was held June 27-29 at the Blackwell Hotel and Conference Center on the Ohio State campus. The seminar included discussions about genetics, prion diseases, avian influenza, microbiology and immunology, fingerprinting and the Internet. A number of forensic science experts such as FBI scientists, physicians and college professors serve as instructors for the ASTAR program. Participants are expected to give back to the program by serving as faculty for future sessions and acting as resources for other judges who have complex science cases brought before them. |
