In celebration of the Discovery Channel's 20th anniversary of "Shark Week", the Tennessee Aquarium has scheduled special activities, giveaways and events to raise awareness about declining shark populations and why everyone should be concerned. Among the activities will be a presentation by Award-winning underwater filmmaker Nick Caloyianis on Tuesday, July 31. Then on Monday, Aug. 6, Rock Point will host an Open-Mic Night for writers and readers beginning at 8 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. Visit DowntownChattanooga.org The Chattanooga Downtown Partnership continues the 2007 Nightfall Concert Series this Friday, Aug. 3, at Miller Plaza with Del Castillo. What began as a Latin flamenco-style project between two brothers, Rick and Mark del Castillo, has become an explosive style of new world flamenco with rock and blues. Opening act Mesa Rio will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Del Castillo at 8 p.m. Sponsors for this year's series are Fletcher Bright Company, Unitrin, BB&T Branch Banking and Trust, Bud Light, Southern Honda Powersports, Food Lion, Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Fox 61 and NPR/Music 88. The Foundry in the Chattanoogan Hotel will feature Garrett Tucker in an acoustic performance Aug. 3 and 4. To celebrate this long-awaited event, the North Shore Merchants Collective, along with the North Chattanooga Council of the Chamber of Commerce, have organized a celebration for this Saturday, Aug. 4. Events will be held at Ross's Landing, Coolidge Park, Frazier Avenue and on the Market Street Bridge. Beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until 10 p.m., activities include people and dog makeovers, Dragon Boat Races, live music and dance performances, sports activities and a sidewalk sale. Riverfront Nights continues this Saturday, August 4th with music from Julius Curcio. Riverfront Nights is a free concert series that will take place on the Fat Cat's Floating Stage located next to the Chattanooga Pier at Ross's Landing. Water transportation to and from the city pier and Coolidge Park will be available before during and after the performance for only $6 for adults and $4 for children round trip.
