Fire Destroys House In Eastdale posted August 13, 2007
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 11:07 p.m. and responded to 3229 Geneal Lane with four fire companies. Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said the house is located on a private road and surrounded by trees. By the time a passing motorist saw the flames from Greenwood Road, the house was fully engulfed in flames. When Chattanooga firefighters arrived, the structure's roof was already collapsing. The firefighters eventually got the blaze under control, but the house was considered a total loss. Chief Biggs estimated the damages at around $90,000. A pet dog was found tied up in the back yard, but it appeared to be uninjured. The dog was handed over to the city's Animal Services department. Captain James Whitmire with the Fire Investigation Division said a man and his two daughters, ages 10 and 15, were not home at the time of the fire. Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the victims. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lieutenant Anthony Moore and Senior Firefighter Andrew Waters are assisting with the investigation.
