Deandra Fuqua and her two daughters, ages 12 and 13, narrowly escaped from a burning house on E. 13th Street early Thursday morning.
They were asleep when neighbors banged on their door informing them that their house was on fire. All three escaped unharmed.
Chattanooga firefighters responded to the house fire at 2017 E. 13th at around 1:30 a.m.
Battalion Chief Mike Knox said the fire was located toward the front of the house, mostly in the attic. Chattanooga firefighters with Engine 5 and Ladder 5 quickly made an interior attack on the fire and got it out in just a few minutes, but not before the fire caused roughly $25,000 in damages.
Most of the fire damage was contained to the attic, but Chief Knox said there was some smoke and water damage to the living area below.
The firefighters found two puppies in the house, and both appeared to be unharmed.
Firefighters with Quint 1 and Quint 2 also provided assistance on the scene.
Ms. Fuqua and her daughters will be staying with relatives for the time being. They did not have renter's insurance.
Chief Knox said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature, most likely from an electrical malfunction.
