Albertini Joins Senate Field As Deadline Passes 5 Candidates From Each Party In 10th District Race posted August 23, 2007 Former gubernatorial candidate Mark Albertini was the only new contender for the state 10th District Senate seat on the final day of qualifying. The deadline to apply to replace longtime Sen. Ward Crutchfield was at noon. The addition of Mr. Albertini to the Republican primary puts five candidates in each party race. They are: Democrat: Andy Berke Ken Jordan Walt "Combat" Ward Lee Carl Whitaker John Wolfe Republican: Mark Albertini Oscar Brock Oscar Brown Basil Marceaux The 10th District includes all of Marion County and part of Hamilton County. The primary will be Oct. 4 and the general election on Nov. 15. Mr. Berke and Mr. Wolfe are Chattanooga attorneys. Mr. Berke is in his first political race, while Mr. Wolfe has waged several campaigns. Mr. Ward, a state probation officer, is also a veteran of numerous races. Mr. Jordan is a former city official and is a developer who recently moved from the MLK District to his native Marion County. Information was not available on candidate Whitaker. Mr. Brock is the son of former U.S. Sen. Bill Brock. Mr. Brown and Mr. Layne are from Marion County. Mr. Layne is chairman of the Marion County Republican Party. He made an unsuccessful race for the County Commission in Marion County, losing to incumbent Tommy Thompson. Mr. Marceaux, of Soddy-Daisy, has also made several races, including running for governor. |
