Rutherford Thanked Scott For "Tenant" Relationship
posted August 30, 2007

District 6 City Councilwoman Marti Rutherford said in a March 5, 2005, letter to a man she says is her landlord she hoped he "did not take any flack" about her being his "tenant".

The letter was written to Rusty Scott at 3442 Alta Vista Dr. within District 6.

The City Council and city attorney are looking into citizen complaints that Ms. Rutherford has continued to live outside the district on Hemphill Avenue.

The full text of the handwritten letter is:

Dear Rusty,

Thank you for all your support in my effort to return to City Hall. Your financial contribution meant much to our success. I do hope that you did not take any flack about me being your "tenant". I am anxious to get back & start working on Brainderd Road improvements. Many Thanks, Marti.

WGOW Talk Radio host Robert T. Nash said he obtained the letter from an undisclosed source and distributed it to local news outlets.

Mr. Nash said, "It indicates the wink wink, nudge nudge relationship Ms. Rutherford has with Mr. Scott. I would say that Ms. Rutherford is done."

Ms. Rutherford referred questions to her attorney, John Anderson.

Attorney Anderson said he interprets the letter as Ms. Rutherford thanking Mr. Scott for allowing her to be his tenant.

He said, "I don't see it is an issue."
