Center For Creative Arts, TN Tech Have Concert Sept. 25
posted September 11, 2007

The Center for Creative Arts and Tennessee Technological University choirs and orchestras will join forces to present a concert on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 in the school’s auditorium.

Under the direction of Dan Allcott, Director of Orchestras at Tennessee Technological University, the combined chorus and orchestra will perform the Mass in G Major, by Franz Schubert, written when the composer was only 18-years-old.

"We are so appreciative of the efforts of our teaching colleagues at Center for Creative Arts. When I visited the school last year, it made me want to bring my colleagues back with me," said Mr. Allcott.

TTU faculty members Diane Pulte Frederick Kennedy, Craig Zamer, and Seanad and Wei Tsun Chang will also appear on the concert.

Center for Creative Arts Director of Strings, Sandy Morris, and Director of Vocal Music, Neshawn Calloway, have prepared the CCA musicians for this performance. "This is an exciting opportunity for our musicians to perform a masterwork side-by-side with college musicians," said Morris.

The concert will open with Allcott conducting the Chamber Strings of the University Orchestra in a performance of the Bach Violin Concerto in A Minor with Wei Tsun Chang as violin soloist. Allcott and Chang, who are both professors in the Department of Music and Art, are both well known to the Middle Tennessee community as the Conductor and the Concertmaster of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra in Cookeville. "They bring an international performing experience to our community, having both performed with major ensembles here and abroad. This is a great opportunity to see and hear their important work," says Tech Music Department Chair Arthur LaBar. Allcott will also lead the Tech Chorale and Strings in a performance of Mozart's Ave verum corpus, recently heard around the world as sung by tenor Andrea Bocelli at the Luciano Pavarotti's funeral two weeks ago.

Admission is $5 and tickets will be available at the door. The school is located at 1301 Dallas Road.
