Juveniles Charged In 38th Street House Fire
posted October 11, 2007

Chattanooga fire investigators have made two arrests in connection with Wednesday's house fire at 1815 W. 38th St.

There had been reports that four people were at the house when the fire broke out, including three juveniles and one adult.

Lieutenant Henry McElvain said that, after examining the physical evidence and talking with numerous people, he charged a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl with aggravated arson.

Early Thursday afternoon, the two juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center for booking.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday and responded with four fire companies. Captain Bruce Williford with Squad 4 said the front porch was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. The flames had penetrated into the front living room before the firefighters could get the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.

The fire damage was contained to the front living room and the porch. The loss was estimated at around $50,000 for the building and contents.

Lieutenant Anthony Moore, Captain Lesley Morgan and Captain James Whitmire assisted with the investigation.
