Fire Damages One Unit At River Hills Manor Apartments
posted October 12, 2007

Fire damaged one unit at the River Hills Manor Apartments in Hixson early Friday morning.

At 1:52 a.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department received an alarm at 2627 Hixson Pike. Fire companies arriving on the scene reported a working fire. Firefighters made an initial attack on the fire and were able to contain the fire to only one unit.

All residents of the complex were evacuated from the building until firefighters could insure there was no further danger of fire spread within the building. One resident was transported to the hospital during the evacuation for a non-fire-related medical condition.

Lt. Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature, most likely from improperly discarded smoking material.

The loss is estimated to be $15,000 for the building and contents. The occupant of the damaged apartment will be moved to another unit.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded seven companies to the fire and was assisted by the Chattanooga Police Department.
