Commission Now Has 16 Choices For Judicial Commissioners
posted October 16, 2007

The County Commission now has 16 choices for four judicial commissioner posts as attorney Gary Starnes withdrew on Tuesday.

The commission meets on the issue on Wednesday morning.

The judicial commissioners set bonds and sign warrants on nights and weekends.

Here is the letter from attorney Starnes:

Dear Chairman Brooks, Commissioner Skillern, & Commissioner Mackey:

As you know, I have a very busy civil practice. Last night, I was looking at my schedule for the next six months, which included being in Atlanta, Ga., for depositions on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. It is a very busy schedule covering more than six states.

After careful consideration and deliberation, I have decided that my civil practice, and other business and personal commitments, will not allow me to devote the amount of time necessary to be a judicial commissioner. Thus, I am withdrawing my name from consideration.

I appreciate having the opportunity to interview with your committee yesterday. I also appreciate the opportunity to be considered for one of the judicial commissioner positions. Unfortunately, time constraints prohibit me from continuing any further.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Very truly yours,

Gary W. Starnes
