The Mayor Did It Right posted October 23, 2007 I applaud Mayor Littlefield for doing the right thing regarding former Councilwoman Marti Rutherford's benefits. What he did required a measure of integrity beyond the boundaries of party (and ruthless) politics. Due largely to the efforts of Ms. Rutherford, Brainerd is experiencing a commanding resurgence after years of decline. It's beginning to look a lot like Brainerd again. For decades Marti has been Brainerd's best friend and greatest booster. I suspect she's achieved more for Chattanooga and Brainerd than any of her archangelic detractors. Her seat on the council may be filled but her shoes won't, and her absence will be sorely felt. However, I trust her tireless efforts in the private sector will not wane.
