2 Treated And Released, 1 Airlifted To Erlanger

A bizarre wreck in front of the Dayton Wal-Mart on Friday night wound up involving 12 vehicles, Dayton Police said.
Four of the vehicles were driven, while the other eight were parked at the Wal-Mart lot.
Two people were treated and released at Rhea Medical Center.
The most seriously injured, 83-year-old Walter Edmond Coulter of Graysville, was taken by LifeForce helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center. He was having additional surgery on Saturday morning and was in stable condition.
Dayton Traffic Investigator Dean Smith said, "We had a mess. I have worked more serious crashes, but none involving this many vehicles."
He said the initial wreck happened at a red light when Mr. Coulter was trying to come out of Wal-Mart and turn south on Highway 27. His vehicle was struck by a northbound wrecker owned by Wendell Watson of Evensville.
Investigator Smith said he is still trying to determine who was at fault at the red light at Seminole Lane and Highway 27.
He said the wrecker spun off and hit an F350 Ford truck that was stopped at the light. Both the driver of the wrecker and the Ford truck driver were taken by ambulance to Rhea Medical Center and later released.
Mr. Coulter's vehicle was knocked northbound and it rolled for a distance before going into the opposite lane and hitting another vehicle.
Meanwhile, the wrecker went on into the Wal-Mart parking lot and struck several vehicles.
A Cougar that was on the back of the wrecker came off.
Another vehicle that the wrecker was pulling came loose and struck four more cars.
Investigator Smith said three or four of the parked cars that were hit suffered extensive damage.
He said traffic on Highway 27 was tied up for a lengthy time.
Dayton Police had a number of officers on the scene and other agencies came to help.
Fortunately, no one was hit near the parked cars.
