The Golden Rule Of Politics
posted October 28, 2007

When Mayor Ron Littlefield refers to the "Golden Rule" you have to wonder which one he means. As he announced his intention to put former City Council member Marti Rutherford on the city payroll so she could earn her retirement health insurance, the mayor invoked the "do unto others" maxim. This for a woman who may well have committed a felony in knowingly running for and accepting a council seat for which she did not qualify.

Meanwhile, the mayor continues his Rottweiler-like attack on a handful of Neighborhood Services bureaucrats from the previous administration.

Want to guess the difference? The disgraced Rutherford supported the mayor in his campaign while Neighborhood Services folks did not.

Obviously, Mr. Littlefield is referring to the Golden Rule of Politics: You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours. Regrettably, that's a far cry from the one we learned about in church.
