Fire Does Considerable Damage To Hixson Home
posted October 29, 2007

Chattanooga firefighters battled a house fire in Hixson early Monday morning. The 911 Communications Center received the first call at 12:19 a.m. and dispatched four fire companies to 1914 DuPont St.

Capt. Jody Houstrup with Quint 19 said flames had engulfed one bedroom in the one-story house and had also broken through the roof.

The firefighters were able to get the blaze under control fairly quickly, containing the fire damage to the bedroom and the roof above. Capt. Houstrup said there was considerable heat and smoke damage to the rest of the house. The loss was estimated at around $80,000.

The residents, a woman and her two daughters, were reportedly away at the time of the fire. A pet cat however, perished in the blaze.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the family. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
