Revitalization Of Main Street Celebrated posted December 8, 2007 A day-long festival celebrated the revival of the historic Main Street district on Saturday. The event included tours of redeveloped and new housing, dedication of a mural, a tree blessing, a parade, music and other activities. Developer John Santero said all but two condos have been sold at the Lofts on Main project in three old stores. He was joined in the project by Neeld Messer and Rick Wood. He noted that new restaurants are opening, including the Bluegrass Grill nearby and the Blue Orleans at the old Clark Furniture at the corner of Market and Main. Owners of the upscale St. John's Restaurant are to open a new Italian restaurant on Main soon. "A butcher and a flower shop are suppose to open soon," Mr. Santero said, pointing east. Among those attending the mural dedication was Shirley Zarzour Fuller, whose family has been on Main Street for about a century. She still operates Zarzour's Restaurant on Rossville Avenue. It opened in 1917. A photo that hangs in Zarzour's is featured on the mural. |
