Fire caused substantial damage early Monday morning to a mobile home located on the grounds of Hixson High School.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 4:22 a.m. and responded to 5705 Middle Valley Road with six fire companies.
Battalion Chief Mike Knox said 911 Communications received several calls reporting that flames were visible at the school. Upon arrival, however, firefighters discovered a double-wide mobile home near the school was on fire, but not the school itself.
Chief Knox said the firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one end of the mobile home, but the damage was substantial and the structure would most likely be considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.
The mobile home was reportedly being used for storage, and as living quarters for a school resource officer, but firefighters were told the officer was staying elsewhere for the night.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
