More Than 500 From Southern Adventist University Have Service Day
posted January 14, 2008

More than 500 students and faculty from Southern Adventist University will volunteer at more than 50 organizations around the Chattanooga area on Jan. 21. This 14th annual Community Service Day will feature the theme “Service in Style.”

“We want service to be the lifestyle of our students—now and in the future,” said Student Coordinator Reneé Baumgartner.

Southern’s Community Service Day is held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day each year to celebrate King’s life of service.

“The greatest birthday gift my husband could receive,” once said King’s wife Coretta Scott King, “is if people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds celebrated the holiday by performing individual acts of kindness through service to others.”

The day of service is made possible by the generosity of Frank McDonald Architects, Southern Adventist University’s Committee of 100, Collegedale Credit Union, Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA) International, Southern Adventist University’s Student Association, and the President’s Office at Southern Adventist University.
