The annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes "Road to Victory" Banquet will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Sherman Smith, running backs coach for the Tennessee Titans, will be the featured speaker.
"We are thrilled to have Sherman Smith speak on behalf of FCA here in Chattanooga," FCA Director Jay Fowler said. "Coach Smith is a man with great character and is an excellent communicator. He has spoken at many FCA functions in middle Tennessee and at other events like the Nashville area Billy Graham Crusade several years ago."
Coach Smith just completed his 13th year as the Titans/Oilers running backs coach and has been Jeff Fisher's assistant head coach for the past two seasons. During his tenure, the Titans have had one of the NFL's top rushing attacks with featured backs like Eddie George, Travis Henry, and now Lendale White.
Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Smith played quarterback at Miami University in Ohio. He was the first offensive player selected by the Seattle Seahawks in their inaugural season (1976) and led the team in rushing their first four seasons. After an eight-year NFL career, he moved to the coaching ranks and ascended from junior high to high school to college to the NFL, molding and shaping athletes at every level. He and his wife Sharon have two children.
This banquet is the primary fund-raiser for the Greater Chattanooga FCA in its ministry to athletes and coaches on more than 75 high school, middle school, and college campuses in southeast Tennessee. For additional information, please contact Jay Fowler at (423) 870-4091.
