TSSAA Division I state duals runner-up Ooltewah has six top seeds and is favored to win the Region 4 traditional tournament on Friday at East Ridge.
The Owls’ top seeds are Cody Hood (130), Danny Wild (135), Evan Hubbs (145), David Jordan (160), Jake Young (171) and Cody Sliger (285).
Seven-time defending Region 4 champion Soddy Daisy has three No.1 seeds in Dustin Gardner (103), Justin Hammons (119) and Mikey Fuller (152).
Three-time defending A/AA state duals champion Notre Dame is next with a pair of top seeds in Tee Boone (125) and Patrick Flynn (189).
The three remaining top seeds went to Larry Balliles (119, East Ridge), JaMarcus Mobley (145, Red Bank) and Todd Worley (215, Hixson).
Region 4 Start Time: Weigh-ins are scheduled for 2 p.m. with the first matches to begin at 4 p.m. Starting with six, round of 16 matches, wrestling will continue straight through the finals with no breaks. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
The Division I state traditional tournament is Feb. 14-16 at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga.
Best Quarterfinal Match: 160 – No.1 David Jordan (Ool) vs. unseeded Tristan McCroskey (Soddy Daisy). McCroskey has moved up from 152 where is was 13-11, but has not wrestled any matches at 160 this season. The loser of this match will have to finish third in the tournament to advance to the state next week.
McCroskey moved to 160, since teammate and three-time Region 4 champion Mikey Fuller moved to 152 from 140.
Seven defending region champions will be in action on Friday. The champions and their weight class in 2007: Justin Hammons (103), Tee Boone (112), Cody Hood (125), Mikey Fuller (130), Danny Tolbert (160), Patrick Flynn (171) and Cody Sliger (285).
Defending Champions: Soddy Daisy has won the past seven Region 4 titles; 2001-2007 … East Ridge was champion in 2000 … The Trojans also won it in 1998 and 1999 as well as a Region 3 title in 1992.
