Alexander: Senate Right To Reject Overspending Economic Growth Bill posted February 6, 2008 Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement today following a vote in the Senate to reject consideration of a bill that he said would have drastically altered an economic growth bill already approved by the Republican and Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives and the President. “The Senate was right to reject an economic growth bill that would have opened the door to unnecessary spending. Now we should quickly make changes to the House legislation in those areas that have broad support in Congress. "I’m joining several of my colleagues to include aid for our seniors and disabled veterans, prevent those in the country illegally from benefiting, and show the American people we can move promptly to give a boost to the economy.” |
