Upset Student Pulls Fire Alarm, 9-Year-Old Faces Charge
posted February 11, 2008

Students and faculty of 21st Century Academy were forced out into the cold morning air Monday when the school's fire alarm was activated. The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at the school at 4201 Cherryton Dr.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded with six fire companies, but there was no fire.

The evacuation lasted roughly five minutes, and during that time, a couple of students were unaccounted for. With the assistance of Principal Mary Lewis and her staff, the two students were located and handed over to Captain James Whitmire with the Fire Investigation Division for questioning.

It didn't take long for one of the students, a nine-year-old boy, to confess to the crime. The boy told Capt. Whitmire that he pulled the alarm because he was mad at some teachers.

The youth was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with making a false report (i.e. false alarm).
