A house suffered fire damage on Burns Avenue in East Ridge late Thursday morning.

East Ridge Fire Rescue and East Ridge Police responded to 1541 Burns Ave. at 11:06 a.m. on a house fire. Callers to 9-1-1 advised there were flames coming from a window at the residence.

Fire crews arrived within five minutes to find heavy fire coming from the residence.

The first firefighters on the scene began fighting the blaze as a second crew conducted a primary search of the residence for any occupants. The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The fire was contained to one room and contents. The damage is estimated to be approximately $20,000. East Ridge fire/arson investigators are looking into the cause and origin of the fire.

Fort Oglethorpe Engine 1 and Memorial EMS also responded to the fire.

The house belongs to Gina and Gary Brumlow, who were called about the fire as they were about to leave town for a weekend trip to the North Carolina mountains.
