Hike Into Volunteering Set For Saturday posted February 25, 2008 Take a Hike Into Volunteering will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants will learn about the Lookout Mountain Land Conservancy (formerly the Lookout Mountain Land Trust), Reflection Riding Arboretum & Botanical Garden, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust and Jeffrey Hunter's work with the American Hiking Society and the National Park Service Trails during the informative 3.5 mile hike. The hike will begin at LMC's John C. Wilson Park on Cummings Highway, travel along the LMC's Guild Trail and part of the NPS's Gum Springs Trail and will conclude at Reflection Riding. Along the way, participants will learn about these active organizations and how to help fulfill their missions as a volunteer. At the Riding free lunch will be served and participants can choose to picnic or eat in the Humphreys House before a caravan will take them back to their cars at John C. Wilson Park. The hike requires moderate physical activity (JWP to the Guild Trail will have some uphill travel, but after that it's flat and downhill). Contact Sarah Quattrochi, Volunteer Coordinator, at (423)653-0091 or sarahq@cnpchatt.org to register. Parking at John C. Wilson Park is limited, so participants are asked to park at the Lookout Mountain Conservancy office, which is located just off Broad Street next to the International Towing and Recovery Museum. Park in this lot and a volunteer or staff member will be available to drive participants about ˝ mile up Cummings Highway to the park. A rain date is set for Saturday, March 15. If the event is postponed due to inclement weather, participants will be notified by phone and/or e-mail on Saturday morning. |
