Smith, Lloyd Ray Led Special Olympics Program Many Years posted March 1, 2008 Lloyd Ray Smith, 73, died early Saturday morning, March 1, 2008 at his home in Chattanooga. Lloyd Ray was born June 6, 1934 in Epps, La. He was a longtime leader in Special Olympics and beloved Orange Grove Center employee. Preceding him in death is his beloved wife of 24 years, Carole Smith. He is survived by his children, Lloyd Ray "Buddy" Smith, II, Gabe Walker Smith, Timmy Conner, Dennis Conner, Tracee Randall and Wendy Leaumont; his siblings, Shirley Benson and Harold Smith; his several grandchildren and his loving companion, Leona Dunn. A born-again Christian, Lloyd Ray lived a happy life full of wild adventures and huge accomplishments. Though known by the local community for his service to the Special Olympics program, he was known by his family as the most wonderful dad, husband and grandfather one could ever hope to have. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, with Father Mike Nolan officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Lloyd requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics, 250 Layne Road, Soddy-Daisy, Tn., 37379. |
