He was the son of Judge L.D. Miller, Sr. and Lena Kate Wills Miller from Mountain City, Tn., who was born on October 21, 1920 in Chattanooga. The family moved to Lookout Mountain in December, 1920. Other siblings are Rinehart Miller Lackey of Cleveland, Tn., the late Sylvia Miller Johnson Graham of Copperhill, Tn., and Portia Miller Wrenn of Chattanooga. Mrs. Lena Miller passed away on September, 1923.
Judge Miller remarried Mrs. Edith McAllister Adkins Miller in April, 1924. This marriage brought a stepbrother, Joseph P. Adkins, Jr., and a new sister, Martha Bell Miller.
L.D. received his education in local schools and graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1938. While working and attending night school at Chattanooga College of Law, he graduated with a law degree and passed the Tennessee State Bar in 1945.
He joined the law firm of Spears, Reynolds, Williams and Moore. Later he opened his own law firm on the tenth floor of the Hamilton National Bank Building where he practiced for over 50 years.
On October 5, 1946, he married Elizabeth Jeanne Collette and their children are Elizabeth (Becky) Kate Miller Bowers, wife of Dr. Richard James Bowers; Leonidas (Micky) D. Miller, III who is married to Carolyn Cofer Miller.
Grandchildren are Dr. Elizabeth Maria Bowers, Chattanooga, and Richard James Bowers, Jr., Detroit, Mi.; Joseph (Jay) Leonidas Miller, Chattanooga, and Ferne Elizabeth Miller, Chattanooga.
L.D. was a long-standing member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, the Fairyland Club and the local and state Bar Association.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren and sisters, Rinehart Lackey, Portia Wrenn and Martha Bell Miller, and Robin Stone, his caregiver, for the past year.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, with visitation from 10:30–11:30 a.m. at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church with funeral services beginning at 11:30 a.m. The burial will follow at the Forest Hills Cemetery.
