Born October 30, 1928, to the late Bruce and Catherine Cavin, Maxine was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a long-time member of Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and hiking and was a member of the Chattanooga Hiking Club and the Dahlia Society. She also volunteered at Reflection Riding Arboretum.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Barney William Helton, brother, Cullen Cavin, and sisters, Tommie Christian and Christine Hickey.
A loving, nurturing wife and mother, Maxine most valued the years she spent raising her four children. She also loved her role as grandmother to her ten grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Barney William II and Marianne Helton, Michael and Tonya Helton; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Chuck O’Mary, Janet and Phillip Holder; grandchildren, David Raines, Chris O’Mary, Jeff Raines, Carrie Brannon, Jessica Moss, Cavin Helton, Sarah O’Rear, Elizabeth Bowden, Wesley Helton and Gerald Helton; great-grandchildren, Kayla Battles, Blair Bowden, Alexandria Raines, Natalie Raines, Victoria Raines, Claire Moss and Elijah Raines; sister, Winkie Capley.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Everett Gossett and Pastor Grady Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
