Kitchen Fire Leaves Two Homeless posted March 11, 2008 Chattanooga firefighters responded to a kitchen fire shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon. Glen Green told firefighters that he was heating up some grease on the stove when he left the kitchen to answer the phone. Mr. Green said he must have lost track of time and returned to the kitchen to see the stove engulfed in flames. Mr. Green initially tried to get a garden hose inside, but was unsuccessful. So he got out of the house and called 911. Battalion Chief Mike Knox said the firefighters quickly put the fire out in the kitchen. However, the flames had spread into the attic, which took more time to extinguish. Chief Knox estimated the dollar loss at $30,000. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire will be ruled accidental, due to food being left unattended on the stove. |
