Ronnie Dodd Enters GOP Sheriff Race posted March 17, 2008 It is now a five-man race for the Republican nomination for sheriff as former Red Bank Police Chief Ronnie Dodd was a late entrant. He was introduced Monday night as Republicans gathered at the East Ridge Community Center to choose delegates for a March 27 convention. Also present and campaigning were Rep. Vince Dean, former Chief Deputy Jim Hammond, Lt. Tim Carroll and retired Lt. Fred Fuson. County Commissioner Greg Beck is the Democratic nominee, and Jim Winters is running as an Independent. There was a good turnout at the meeting Monday night - so much that it had to be moved to the gymnasium at the facility. Connie Weathers, party chairman, said as many as 400 people attended. She said some 225 delegates were chosen and there were also alternates selected. Mrs. Weathers said party officials will now certify those workers after checking to make sure they meet the criteria, including being voters in their precincts. She said the five candidates will be at a forum next Monday at 7 p.m. at Westview Elementary School in East Brainerd. |
