Police Blotter: Man Sets Woman's Hair On Fire, Frightens Clerk posted March 18, 2008 Police were called to a store on Highway 153 after a female clerk said she was frightened by questions asked by two white males. She said the men asked when she was closing, when was the last time she had been robbed, and did she have anything to protect her against a robbery. Officers located the men in the 5400 block of Highway 153. Police said one of the men was the suspect who "set a female's hair on fire." No further details were given about that incident. * * * At the Best Buy on Gunbarrel Road, a white male was seen getting an Apple Ipod out of a display case and starting to walk out of the store with it. A clerk stopped him, and the thief grabbed the clerk tightly by the arm and went on out. He got into the passenger side of a white Chevy S10 pickup truck. The truck was traced to a woman on S. Lyerly Street. * * * Lisa Burnette said she went to the Central Park on E. 23rd Street to get her final check from new owner Martha Zurn. She said she could only get the check if she took off the company shirt she was wearing. She did and got her check. Police said other ex-workers who took part in a mass walkout and firing over the weekend were there too to get their checks. * * * Brad Salvage said he docked his boat at Ross's Landing and, when he was asleep, someone disconnected it from the dock and pulled out the power cord. He said the boat hit against the dock, but was not damaged. Mr. Salvage said he believes it was a prank by teenagers. But he said he and his wife were afraid to spend the night there and were moving on. * * * Police and EMTs were called on a possible dead person behind a building on East Brainerd Road. Officer Ken Burnette said a female was in a blanket and at first glance she "was not among the living." However, when EMTs checked, they found Nancy Haversack "was quite alive" and not in need of any medical attention. She said she had been evicted and had nowhere else to spend the night. |
