Old Narrowbridge Restaurant Burns posted March 20, 2008 The old Narrowbridge Restaurant in East Brainerd suffered heavy fire damage on Thursday night. Chattanooga firefighters were called to the scene of the large structure fire at Heritage Park off East Brainerd Road. Lt. Larry O'Rear and his firefighters from Station 21 were the first on the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. Lt. O'Rear said there was smoke coming from the roof and flames were visible on the back side of the two-story structure. Capt. David Powell, the incident commander, called for a second alarm response to bring in a total of eight fire companies. Capt. Powell said the firefighters made an interior attack on the fire, which was located on the second floor. The flames penetrated into the walls and roof, but the firefighters eventually got the blaze under control. No injuries were reported. The building has long been vacant. The property is being purchased by the city as an extension of Heritage Park. Plans had been to tear down the old restaurant building, which was originally a home. Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature. Chattanooga police, Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue also provided assistance on the scene. |
