Erlanger Has Profitable Month
posted March 24, 2008

After a string of months in the red, Erlanger Hospital officials reported a profit in February.

The hospital had a gain of $1,356,064.

However, the budgeted gain was $2.4 million.

For the fiscal year, Erlanger has a $6.l4 million loss. The hospital had projected an $8.9 million profit by this time.

At this time in the last fiscal year, Erlanger had a profit of $6.1 million.

Erlanger is planning to enter into a contract with Anesthesiology Consultants Exchange for coverage at Erlanger East, Erlanger North, Miller Eye Center, the main campus and Children's Hospital.

The fee will be $5.3 million per year.

Coverage for 39 locations by anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists will be 7 a.m.-3 p.m., and after 3 p.m. on demand.

Hospitals in Tennessee are not allowed to employ their own anesthesiologists.

Hospital officials cited a shortage of anesthesiologists and a demand for anesthesia services outside of the operating room.

The contract is for three years.
