Red Bank Man Facing Federal Charges In Thefts At Signal Point posted March 24, 2008 A Red Bank man is facing federal charges after he was caught stealing items out of cars at Signal Point - a unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park on Signal Mountain. Authorities said Steven Dewayne Crowe and another man were observed breaking into cars during a stake-out of the park after a rash of break-ins. Ranger John Housch said the Signal Mountain Police Department was conducting the surveillance operation on Sunday just before 4 p.m. when an officer saw two white males exit a gray Nissan and peer into adjacent vehicles. One of the men broke the window on a gray Toyota sedan belonging to Carla Peterson and removed over $1,000 worth of jewelry and other items. The officer pulled a gun on the pair as they started to drive off, but they continued on. The officer was able to get the tag number, and it was traced to Crowe's residence. Ranger Housch said Crowe was contacted by Red Bank Police and he agreed to return to Signal Point, where he was interviewed by rangers. He said Crowe admitted taking part in at least six vehicle break-ins at the park. Crowe appeared before Magistrate Susan Lee on Monday afternoon. |
