Chattanooga Developer Schimpf Taking Over Riverfront Project
Florida Developer Bows Out
posted March 25, 2008

Chattanooga developer Buck Schimpf said he is taking over a multi-million-dollar downtown riverfront project announced earlier by a Florida developer.

Mr. Schimpf said he is set to close on the purchase of just under six acres at the old Gilman Paint site on April 3.

He said the project will include a hotel, restaurant, a new marina, condominiums and townhomes.

Mr. Schimpf said he will pay to extend the Tennessee Riverwalk through the new development. It now ends at a city marina at Ross's Landing Park.

The city is entering into a 40-year lease on an adjacent 2.5 acres at 201 Riverfront Parkway with Mr. Schimpf's Harbor Lodging firm.

A public parking lot will go in there. Mr. Schimpf's firm will construct the parking lot.

Mr. Schimpf said he will announce details of the project after closing on the purchase.
