It took two minutes for master glassblower Christopher Mosey to decide to launch a new studio and gallery space at the Off Main Art Collective at 1800 Rossville Ave. At nearly 5,000 square feet and soaring ceilings, the space is three times larger than the Carter Street studio, where he created his art for the past seven years.

The new studio space features an expanded working studio, complete with studio offices, hot-shop and cold-shop, as well as an art glass gallery. Christopher Mosey can now fulfill his dual vision: to create glass sculpture of unconstrained scope and size; and to create a place where the community of Chattanooga can witness and be inspired by the art and skill of glassblowing.

The artisan said he is thrilled to complete his new studio and is ready to move in: “I am so excited to begin blowing glass again. I have been putting so much of my efforts into redesigning and outfitting the space that it has been four months since I was last in front of a furnace; My sketchbook is bursting at the seams.”

Since local painter Terry Cannon invited Mosey to be a part of the Off Main Art Collective, five other artists have also signed onto the vision.

Says Christopher Mosey, “It’s ideal to create art within a community setting – a close-knit group of artists interacting with and inspiring each other with a healthy exchange of ideas. The expansiveness of the space also adds a dimension to the creativity. This is a place where we can let the work grow and get larger and more unwieldy if we so choose.”

The arts community, especially in downtown Chattanooga, is very excited about the new space, he said. “I have always found Chattanooga a great place for an artist to put down roots, spread out and explore making new work,” states Mosey, “There is a cultural renaissance in downtown Chattanooga with an explosion of small businesses and new stores. The Off Main Art Collective will bring even more excitement and energy to the area.”

Christopher Mosey is known for his original blown glass sculpture which features a unique visceral, tactile experience. He studied ceramics and glassblowing at the Appalachian Center for Crafts. After his first glassblowing class in 1996, there was no looking back.

His new expansive studio is located at 1800 Rossville Ave., Suite 4. For more information on Christopher Mosey or to place an order, please call 423 265-2565.
