Thoughts On Emission Inspections - And Response
posted March 26, 2008

I went through emissions yesterday, and just about every vehicle in the lines were less than three years old.

It seems to me that a vehicle that's less than three years old is going to be emissions compliant.

If there is a problem, the CEL (check engine light) on the dash will be lit up indicating a problem, and the owner should take the vehicle to the dealer to get it resolved under warranty.

I would have no problem with vehicles that are older than three years being checked for emissions.

It gives me a bad taste when I see the emissions program being a revenue generator as its main priority.

Since Chattanooga is a hub of so many outlying areas that don't require emissions inspections, many people
who live in these areas drive into the city to work each day and contribute greatly to our pollution problem and get a free pass.

Don't forget the interstates, I-24, and I-75 to name a few, that go right through our city with thousands upon thousands of cars and trucks each day.

I guess it won't be long before the rate will be $20 instead of the current $10.

Maybe, I shouldn't have said that, it might give somebody an idea...

Amen, I agree with you 110%. This is a money thing, just like the good old city of Chattanooga stickers.

Hey you can do what many others are doing, if you own a piece of property in any other county, you can just change your drivers license to that address and skip the whole process all together. I am sure there are more than a few, that do.

When I was a little girl we lived in Soddy Daisy and our family cars always had Rhea County tags. It was such a short drive and short line in Dayton, Rhea County, than Chattanooga and it was all legal.

Just make emission testing for the whole state or not at all. Just wait the Wheel Tax is coming soon to a local voting booth near you.

Oh no, I just gave another bad idea to the lawmakers.
